2017 La Certe Grenache
Bright, fruity and dense
LaCerte Vineyard is a 2.1-acre parcel meticulously farmed by Chris King (DDLC, Robert William Ranch, Casa Cassara) of Coscha Farming. It end caps the ridgeline that separate Ballard Canyon and Los Olivos District. The Southernly exposure is perfect for ripening varietals like Roussanne and Grenache. The vines have trellising but are pruned like head trained vines to allow air flow and cover from the sun and planted at a spacing of 6ft between rows and 2.5ft between vines. Due to its close proximity to Ballard Canyon the soils are a mix of calcareous and gravel with old river cobble and some clay content.
Much like the 2016 this wine is bright, fruity and dense. 20% whole cluster used this year and 1 pump over per day. There is a dusty earthy quality to this wine with nice structure and fine tannins.
