2016 Presqu'ile Vineyard Syrah
Medium Red Wine
Presqu’ile Vineyard is within the Santa Maria Valley AVA. The east–west orientation of this wide-open valley, means cool Pacific Ocean winds and fog flow freely settling, most noticeably, in lower-lying areas. This climatic effect is significant in several viticultural areas along California's Pacific coast.
As the cool maritime influence lengthens the growing season, it contributes to the eventual sugar/acid balance in these wines. Indeed, Santa Maria Valley's extended grape-growing season is among the longest in the world.
The majority of these grapes were de-stemmed, and about 10-12% was whole cluster. To achieve soft silky tannins, the wine was pumped over once a day during fermentation. Aged for 18 month in 20% new French oak and 80% neutral. The wine has intense spice found only in cool climate and sandy soils.
